Anime Kimono Question?

This is kind of embarrassing but, I was wondering if maybe someone could help me name a type of kimono I recently saw? I know I've seen it on some of the glass Japanese dolls I occasionally see in the various Asian antique stores I go too but, after seeing it again in one of the current series's I'm watching at the moment called Hakuouki Shinsengumi Kitan, that's based off of an otome game, I thought it looked incredibly beautiful and now I've been trying to figure out the history behind it and it's name. Thus far I've been searching around for the type of kimono's worn back in the 1800's since that's when the series is taking place but, nothing seems to fit what I'm looking for so I thought I'd randomly ask here. So any and all information is much appreciated. This is the kimono:
Beautiful no? =D

Very pretty! For starters, this picture is highly stylized... They designed it more like a mermaid-tail gown than a real kimono. The clothing itself pretty well illustrates that she is an
oiran
, a courtesan. The hairstyle with large tortoise shell pins, and the ornate obi tied in the front, are dead giveaways. Hope that helps a bit!

Your right, it does remind me of a mermaid gown more then a kimono. O.O; And an oiran, a courtesan? I was certainly looking in the wrong place then. >_<; I'll see about looking more into it now. Thanks Ask. =D
